The vacancy
The Commonwealth Secretariat is seeking a dynamic and relationship?driven Head of Private Sector Fundraising to help expand and diversify the organisation’s funding base. This role is central to strengthening the Secretariat’s long?term sustainability by unlocking new financing opportunities, deepening partnerships, and positioning the organisation as a trusted partner for donors, private sector actors, and development finance institutions.
The Role
You will play a leading role in shaping and delivering a comprehensive resource mobilisation strategy—identifying innovative financing opportunities, cultivating high?value partnerships, and driving engagement with private sector entities, regional development banks, and multilateral institutions. Working closely with the Director of Resource Mobilisation and Partnerships, you will research and pursue new funding avenues, advocate for increased investment in the Secretariat’s priorities, and ensure the organisation remains visible and compelling to potential partners.
You will draft funding proposals and organisational assessments, lead timely and high?quality donor reporting, and support regular consultations that strengthen trust and alignment with partners. You will also help build internal capacity by mentoring colleagues on fundraising techniques and donor relations, while raising awareness of the Secretariat’s work across the funding landscape.
About You
You are a strategic connector with a strong understanding of the development financing ecosystem and a proven ability to build and sustain partnerships. You bring experience in resource mobilisation, private sector engagement, or development partnerships—ideally within an international or intergovernmental setting. You excel at crafting persuasive proposals, analysing funding trends, and navigating complex donor environments.
You combine strong communication skills with the ability to build trust, influence stakeholders, and represent the organisation with confidence. You are proactive, analytical, and collaborative—comfortable working across teams and engaging senior officials, ministries, and agencies at country level. Experience in innovative financing or development partnerships will strengthen your profile.
