Professional Experience:
A seasoned development professional with over 23 years of experience in poverty reduction, livelihoods, disaster relief and recovery, skill development, enterprise, market development, private sector, civil society, conservation, and climate change, resilience, and sustainable development. He brings with him a wealth of professional expertise and valuable insights on technical and management experiences on bottom-up, top-down, private, public, civil society, and tailored approaches to development challenges – be it humanitarian, poverty, market, or rights-based. He has worked with notable organizations such as the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (AKRSP), Save the Children International, and Karakoram Area Development Organization (KADO).
Currently, Mr. Ali serves as an Innovative Livelihoods Specialist at ICIMOD, engaged across Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, and Tajikistan. In this role, he manages projects and interventions that focus on the green, inclusive, resilient, and circular economy. His responsibilities also include private sector development, policy research, challenge funds, and improving the enabling environment for entrepreneurial ecosystems. Previously within ICIMOD, he played a key role in fostering transboundary cooperation, conservation of protected areas, rangelands, and enterprise and value chain opportunities.
Mr. Ali's contributions go beyond his current role. He has played a vital part in institutional development, program planning and management, market development, sustainable development, policy research, and adaptation and resilience-building strategies. Additionally, he excels as a mentor and coach, guiding teams towards achieving collective goals and effectively engaging with public, private, and civil society stakeholders.
