Professional Experience:

Mr. M. Mahbubul Alam is a seasoned grants, finance, and operations leader with over 25 years of progressive experience managing large-scale USAID, USDA, FCDO, SDC, GFATM, EU, UNs and other donor-funded projects in Bangladesh. He has successfully overseen complex grants, subcontracts, and operations portfolios valued between USD 5–37.5 million, driving financial integrity, compliance, and efficiency across multi-sector development programs.

Throughout his career, Mr. Mahbub has held senior management roles providing strategic and operational leadership across finance, procurement, human resources, administration, and security, while mentoring multidisciplinary teams. His expertise spans the full grants lifecycle, including solicitation, due diligence, award management, compliance audits, and closeout. He brings exceptional capability in developing grants and operations manuals, financial and HR policies, and ensuring adherence to donor regulations under both acquisition and assistance mechanisms.

Mr. Mahbub most recently served as Finance and Operations Director for the USAID Systems Strengthening for One Health (SSOH) Activity, implemented by DAI Global, LLC, a USD 26 million, five-year initiative strengthening Bangladesh’s One Health governance, GHS, and AMR response capacities. He led the project’s national operations, managing grants and subcontracts worth USD 6.5 million, and oversaw finance, HR, procurement, logistics, and IT functions. As part of the Senior Management Team, he acted as Chief of Party (ad interim) and served as Security Focal Point and Bank Administrator for DAI’s country operations, ensuring strategic alignment between compliance, cost-effectiveness, and program impact.

Previously, he held senior leadership positions including Operations Director for Tetra Tech/BADGE, Finance & Operations Lead for DAI/Fleming Fund, and for Palladium/Skills and Employment Programme), Operations Manager (DCOP-Operations) for MSI/Obirodh, and Grants Manager for Winrock International, Land O’Lakes Venture37, and IRG. Across these assignments, he led institutional capacity-building for government, private sector, and civil society partners, enabling transparent, sustainable financial and operational systems.

Mr. Mahbub holds a Master’s in Management and an MBA, and a Postgraduate Diploma in HR Management. Also, as a Certified Financial Specialist (CFS), a Qualified Internal Auditor (QIA), and a Certified Project Management Analyst (CPMA), Mr. Alam is deeply knowledgeable in IFRS, ISA, GAAP and donor funding compliance frameworks. He combines strategic foresight with a hands-on approach to risk management, capacity development, and stakeholder engagement.
