Location: Birendranagar (Surkhet), Nepal
Lutheran World Relief, part of Corus International, has worked in Nepal since 2013. Corus International is a global leader in international development working to end extreme poverty. The Project Director (PD) will lead implementation of the Takeda-funded 'Suswastha (Good Health)' project, which aims to strengthen warning systems, infrastructure and health responses for climate-sensitive diseases and disasters. The PD manages the project office, operations, staff, capacity building and stakeholder engagement.
Key responsibilities:
- Project Leadership (50%): manage day-to-day implementation including workplans, budget and finance oversight, monitoring and evaluation; lead the project team; ensure timely, high-quality progress, financial and evaluation reports; ensure donor compliance and policy adherence; oversee screening and contracting of staff and contractors; support audits.
- Partner Management (20%): work with NGO and government stakeholders; provide capacity building and training to partners; capture lessons learned; hold periodic partner meetings; ensure prudent management of project funds.
- Coordination and Representation (15%): liaise with the Ministry of Health and Food Safety, Ministry of Social Development and the Provincial Health Directorate; maintain relationships with health facilities, host government, donors, the Japanese Embassy and UN agencies.
- Staff Management (10%): supervise direct reports (Senior Program Manager-Health, Project Manager-Health Infrastructure, M&E Manager), run performance planning and evaluations, and give dotted-line oversight of finance staff.
- Safety and Safeguarding (5%): act as security focal point and safeguarding lead for the project office.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in public health or environmental science (Master's preferred) and at least 8 years of experience leading and managing public health programs.
- Demonstrated team management and capacity-building experience.
- Familiarity with program and data management tools, results-based management and M&E.
- Experience with institutional donors, private sector, local NGOs, communities and authorities; strong knowledge of donor funding mechanisms.
- Strong understanding of the local context and government structures; prior climate-health program experience is a plus.
- Fluent English; local language desired; strong budgeting and MS Excel skills; Office 365 proficiency.
Hybrid work policy (minimum 3 days/week in office); travel as required.
