Its mission is to enable Canadians to understand, connect with, and succeed in Asia through trusted insights, high-level convening, talent development, and sustained partnerships.
APF Canada is looking for a full-time Communications Manager (Outreach & Strategy) on a fixed one-year contract. The role will help leverage current communications channels, audiences, and activities in implementing a forward-looking communications strategy that enhances engagement with research and programming outputs, events, networks, and projects, while building brand awareness in Canada and globally. The role is equal parts strategy and hands-on delivery, with a focus on proactive media outreach to domestic and international media and on curating a daily internal media brief. You will report to the Director of Communications and work with colleagues in Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, and Singapore.
Key responsibilities:
- Communications strategy review and planning: confirm priority audiences and objectives; assess newsletters, social media, and multimedia channels; improve content packaging, SEO, accessibility, and discoverability; improve KPIs and reporting (GA4, email metrics, platform insights); identify 3-6 low-risk AI/automation opportunities with human oversight.
- Main deliverable: a prioritized 12-month implementation plan with 90-day quick wins, a roadmap with objectives, metrics, owners, risks, tools, and cost estimates, and working sessions with the communications, research, and programming teams.
- Media outreach, content operations, and measurement: pitch APF Canada experts to journalists across Canada and the Indo-Pacific; refine the media database and media tracking tools; maintain the daily internal media brief; help build a "must-track" KPI framework; build a content multiplier workflow (summaries, social posts, podcasts, video shorts); help implement a project management platform across offices; manage the editorial calendar; maintain a templates toolkit.
Requirements:
- 5-10 years of progressively senior communications experience, ideally in a think-tank, research institute, university, government, or non-profit setting.
- Experience with digital communications, content strategy, social media, multimedia, and ethical use of AI/digital tools.
- Record of placing stories, op-eds, and expert commentary with national or international media.
- Fluency with digital analytics and reporting (GA4, email platform metrics, social insights).
- Experience running an editorial calendar in a project management platform (e.g., Asana, Monday.com, ClickUp).
- Fluent English with exceptional written and verbal communication; French is an asset.
- Familiarity with CMS platforms, media monitoring services (e.g., Meltwater, Cision), and email marketing platforms.
- University or technical institute degree, or an advanced diploma, in communications, new/digital media, or a related field; eligible to work in Canada.
Hybrid work from the Vancouver office (2 days in office). Salary range: $80,000-$85,000 per year plus extended health benefits.
