ChildFund is a child- and youth-focused organization working with and for children in communities around the world, with a goal of ensuring children grow up healthy, educated, skilled, and safe. The Country Director, Kenya is a full-time, fixed-term, on-site role based in Nairobi, reporting to the Deputy Regional Director, Programs and Impact. The Country Director is a visionary and strategic leader who serves as ChildFund's principal representative in the country, building and sustaining high-level relationships with donors, government agencies, the private sector and civil society to unlock new funding and expand ChildFund's reach. The role provides strategic oversight across advocacy and communications, partnership portfolio management, program delivery, sponsorship stewardship, administration and support, enterprise risk management, disaster risk reduction, and safety and security.
Key responsibilities: strategic portfolio growth and locally led development; program excellence and innovation, including youth-led approaches, safeguarding, MERL, DRR and gender and social inclusion; grants and project management for larger, high-value grants; talent leadership and culture building; external representation and advocacy; resource mobilization and fundraising; operational stewardship; governance and compliance; knowledge and learning; emergency response; safety and security; and safeguarding.
Requirements: University degree in a relevant field (master's strongly preferred); at least 10 years of management or senior management experience in the development sector; demonstrated experience managing institutional grants and individual donors; proven success securing funding from varied sources, with business development at 60% or more of effort; experience in emergency and/or community development programs; fluency in English; knowledge of the child protection and child-focused programming landscape in Kenya; strong leadership, partnership, change management and team-building competencies. The position is subject to vetting checks, including a criminal records check, and ChildFund has a zero-tolerance policy on sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment.
