The Danish Refugee Council (DRC), one of the world's leading humanitarian NGOs, is recruiting a Roving Emergency Advisor – Protection to join its roving Emergency, Protection, Assistance and Coordination Team (EMPACT), a multifunctional team of senior Emergency Response Specialists deployable within 72 hours to support DRC Country Offices in emergency situations.
The Advisor leads or supports rapid protection analysis and the design of emergency protection responses, providing technical guidance and hands-on support to protection staff throughout the project cycle. DRC's protection programming covers Legal Aid, Community-Based Protection, Gender-Based Violence prevention and response, Child Protection, Protection Information Management, and Mental Health and Psychosocial Support.
Main duties (varying by deployment):
- Lead or support rapid protection assessments and analysis to identify risks, needs and response priorities.
- Support the design and implementation of high-quality emergency protection responses in line with DRC standards and country strategies.
- Provide technical guidance to protection teams and support rollout of protection tools, approaches and SOPs.
- Act as focal point for protection mainstreaming and Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) integration.
- Manage or oversee emergency protection projects, including work plans, budgets, targets and reporting.
- Ensure quality assurance and monitoring of protection activities.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, supervision and capacity strengthening of national and international staff.
- Represent DRC in Protection Clusters, Working Groups and other coordination mechanisms.
- Liaise with local authorities, communities, humanitarian partners and civil society.
- Contribute to DRC's Emergency Preparedness and Response Strategy and share lessons learned.
Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years' experience planning, implementing and monitoring protection activities and projects.
- Experience designing, implementing, and monitoring and evaluating protection interventions in two or more components: GBV, Child Protection, Protection Information Management, Community-Based Protection, MHPSS, and/or Legal Aid.
- Sound understanding of protection mainstreaming, AGD mainstreaming, conflict sensitivity, and PSEA.
- Proven experience in complex emergency contexts, including technical advice to field teams.
- Excellent communication skills in English and French.
- Excellent planning, management and coordination skills.
- Strong experience in team management and capacity building.
- Proven ability to live and work in unstable, insecure environments.
- Detailed knowledge of humanitarian principles, guidelines and standards.
- Flexibility and ability to adapt quickly to different contexts and teams.
Desirable: Spanish or Arabic; familiarity with DRC's other core sectors.
Contract: 12 months, Employment band F, roving duty station, start date earliest possible, expatriate contract.
