CorpsAfrica, inspired by the Peace Corps model, enables African youth to serve as Volunteers in rural communities, collaborating with local people on sustainable, community-led projects that alleviate poverty and enhance livelihoods. It is seeking a full-time Communications Officer in Kampala to tell the story of CorpsAfrica/Uganda and strengthen its visibility, reputation and engagement with key audiences. Reporting to the Country Director and working closely with the Global Support Office, the role combines strategic communications, writing and storytelling, digital communications, media engagement, photography and videography, design and field documentation.
Responsibilities: (1) External communications: support communications strategies; write and edit news and impact stories, articles, newsletters, press releases, reports and fact sheets; interview Volunteers and community members; support media engagement and keep media contacts; ensure brand consistency. (2) Digital communications: manage website, newsletter and social media content; create campaigns, graphics, photos and videos; monitor digital activity; maintain media archives. (3) Internal communications and organizational support: keep staff and Volunteers informed; coordinate with the Country Director and Global Communications team; support events such as Volunteer recruitment, trainings, Pitch Day, partnership events and Close of Service. (4) Outreach and recruitment: support outreach with partners, universities and community organizations, including information sessions and career fairs. (5) Training: design and facilitate training for Volunteers and staff in storytelling, photography, social media and branding. (6) Photography, videography and field storytelling: document events and projects, and travel regularly to Volunteer communities.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing or a related field with at least three years of relevant professional communications experience; excellent writing, editing and storytelling skills; experience managing organizational social media; strong photography and videography skills; graphic design experience (Canva, Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator); ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines; strong interpersonal skills; willingness to travel to CorpsAfrica communities; commitment to youth leadership and community-led development; fluency in English, with proficiency in a Ugandan language an advantage.
