Location: Lusaka, Zambia
The Finance Manager is responsible for the full finance function in Zambia, including implementation and monitoring of all financial transactions and administrative processes, management reporting, financial data analysis and donor reporting. The role supports the country team in ensuring proper resource allocation for programme implementation. The Finance Manager reports to the Project Lead and provides direct technical and financial support to the Zambia country programme.
Key responsibilities:
- Financial Controls and Compliance: lead in-country treasury processes and internal controls; manage donor financial and compliance requirements so expenses are consistent with grant agreements; ensure adherence to m2m finance and operational policies; build country team capacity on policies, procurement and accounting software; support bank account set-up and statutory registration and filings; support statutory and donor audits and lead country-specific audits, including follow-up of audit findings.
- Financial Management and Operational Support: manage monthly closing and balance sheet reconciliations; support the Project Lead and country management team; track cash receipts and disbursements at project level; monitor cash flow and prepare cash budgets and funding requests; oversee procurement, logistics and travel; manage project contracting with the Global Support Hub; identify cost efficiencies; manage fixed asset and inventory registers; support financial due diligence of Community-Based Organisations, local partners and sub-recipients, review partner financial reports, and provide financial mentoring and capacity strengthening to partners.
- Budgets, Financial Reporting and Analysis: prepare annual and project budgets; prepare monthly financial reports and quarterly pipeline reports and forecasts; analyse budget variances and initiate corrective measures; submit accurate financial data and reports to the Global Support Hub; prepare proposal budgets for new opportunities.
Essential qualifications: Bachelor's degree in accounting, business or a similar field; at least five years' post-study experience in a financial or accounting capacity, including at least two years of management experience; experience presenting financial data to non-finance staff; experience developing budgets, forecasts and financial reports; strong accounting and financial management skills with attention to detail; analytical and problem-solving skills; experience with ERP accounting systems and high proficiency in Excel; excellent interpersonal, organisational and time-management skills; ability to work under pressure; fluent English.
Desirable: understanding of institutional donor requirements from European funders, US Government, UN partner agencies and the Global Fund.
