The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) is a national advocacy organization that advances First Nations Inherent and Treaty Rights through policy development, public education and, where applicable, the co-development of legislation. The AFN is seeking an Information Desk Lead to oversee the coordination and delivery of Information Desk services supporting First Nations individuals and caregivers applying for compensation under the First Nations Child and Family Services (FNCFS) and Jordan's Principle Settlement.
Reporting to the Director of Children, Families and Social Development, the Information Desk Lead provides operational leadership, conducts research and analysis, develops recommendations, and supports the AFN's advocacy priorities and implementation efforts related to the Settlement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and oversee Information Desk services that support First Nations individuals and caregivers throughout the compensation application process.
- Conduct research, analyze data and trends, and develop reports and recommendations to support effective implementation of the compensation process.
- Develop, coordinate and deliver briefings, reports, presentations and other communications related to the Information Desk and Settlement initiatives.
- Respond to inquiries and provide accurate, timely information regarding the compensation process.
- Collaborate with internal teams to improve processes, procedures and service delivery.
- Build and maintain relationships with First Nations leadership, communities, organizations and government partners to support engagement and outreach.
- Represent the Information Desk at meetings, events, conferences and outreach activities.
- Provide strategic advice and recommendations to the Director on Information Desk operations, compensation-related issues and public awareness initiatives.
- Provide guidance, support and task coordination for Information Desk staff, including identifying training and development needs.
- Assist with planning and development of materials, reports and communications for key organizational initiatives and reporting requirements.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in social sciences, psychology, counselling or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience working with First Nations communities, organizations and leadership.
- Minimum 5 years of experience providing support services to at-risk populations.
- Strong knowledge of First Nations child and family services, including Jordan's Principle, and Indigenous policy issues.
- Demonstrated experience building relationships with governments, partners and stakeholders.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, leadership and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with tact and sound judgment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
- Bilingualism (English and French) and crisis intervention training or experience are assets.
- CPIC check and Vulnerable Sector Screening required.
- Willingness and ability to travel as required.
