This is a hybrid position requiring 8 days per month in the office, based in The Hague or London, on a 1-year contract initially with possibility of renewal. Reporting to the Regional Manager, Accounting and Finance – Europe, the role focuses on operational and analytical work underpinning the regional finance function, working closely with the Global Accounting team and Program Coordinators across the institute as part of the Europe Operations Team.
Responsibilities include: preparing and performing first-line review of monthly and quarterly reconciliations for WRI Europe entities (bank, balance sheet, intercompany, payroll, tax/VAT); supporting monthly and year-end finance closure including journal entries, accruals, prepayments and reclassifications; coordinating expense tracking and vendor invoice processing; preparing payment runs and cash-flow forecasts; supporting budget monitoring and variance commentary; acting as a key operational finance contact point; contributing to process improvements; supporting compliance with Europe statutory requirements; assisting with audit preparation; supporting configuration of accounting and budgeting systems; and maintaining the Accounting Handbook for WRI Europe.
Requirements: bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or a related field (accounting qualification such as ACCA, CPA or CMA an advantage); full-time relevant experience with accounting processes, year-end closing and audit procedures; demonstrated understanding of accounting principles and monthly closing procedures; experience in budgeting, financial analysis and forecasting; experience preparing dashboards/management reports for non-finance audiences; experience collaborating with distributed teams; experience with Workday or similar ERP/expense tools an advantage; experience with donor-funded projects or grants within an international NGO desirable. Existing work authorization required; WRI cannot sponsor visas for this role.
Salary: Netherlands €63,000–€79,000 (excl. 8% vacation allowance); UK £54,000–£68,000.
