The Asia Research Institute (ARI), National University of Singapore (NUS), invites applications for a full-time Postdoctoral/Research Fellow to work on an 18-month research project titled "Social Capital in Singapore: A Deep Dive into Social Mix and Social Mixing." The position is for one year initially, with possibility of renewal into a second year, commencing November-December 2026. The study examines the role of social capital in Singapore, focusing on class social mixing and its potential to strengthen Singaporean identity, analysing two waves of survey data (2026 and 2027) tracking 3,000 Singapore citizens and Permanent Residents, complemented by qualitative focus group discussions. The successful applicant will be hosted in the ARI Migration and Mobilities Cluster, working with Prof Elaine Ho and an interdisciplinary team. Responsibilities include convening focus group discussions, research analysis and writing, cross-disciplinary collaboration, presenting at conferences, joint authorship of publications, and organizing project meetings, workshops, and grant applications. Requirements: a PhD (or awaiting conferment) in Social Sciences and Humanities, preferably Social Geography, Sociology, Anthropology or Migration Studies; demonstrable research interest in the project themes; strong qualitative research skills (mixed methods experience an advantage); potential for publication in high-impact peer-reviewed journals; strong written and spoken communication and academic writing skills; and strong interpersonal and collaborative skills.
