The Future of Life Institute (FLI) is hiring a Special Projects Manager for the Communications Team. The Communications Team produces a high volume of design and digital work — websites, campaign microsites, event identities, reports and assets — for a global audience, often on fast timelines tied to policy moments. The Special Projects Manager will report to the Director of Communications and will drive diverse projects from initial scoping to completion, working with a retained external studio and a small in-house team.
Responsibilities include developing creative and technical briefs; overseeing project performance and progress with internal and external stakeholders; identifying, onboarding and managing agencies and contractors; owning quality assurance against brand guidelines and accessibility standards (WCAG); ideating digital products to support FLI's mission; running special projects such as international creative contests; and stewarding brand coherence with the website development agency.
Required: based in a timezone between US West Coast and UK (UTC-8 to UTC+1); proven ability to coordinate complex, multi-stakeholder projects; a track record of building or improving delivery processes; project management experience across design, communications and/or digital/web projects, including managing external agencies. Preferred: experience running participatory or multi-stakeholder projects, familiarity with website delivery/CMS, working knowledge of SEO and analytics, and nonprofit/policy/advocacy experience.
Salary: $100,000-$190,000 a year, varying by experience and geography. FLI is an independent non-profit working to steer transformative technology towards benefiting life and away from extreme large-scale risks, through grantmaking, educational outreach, and policy engagement.
Application Deadline: 2nd October 2026
HOW TO APPLY:
Apply via the FLI website by uploading your resume, a portfolio of design products you have quality assured (if available), and short answers to two application questions. Email applications are not accepted.
