The Center for Victims of Torture is hiring an Institutional Giving Officer to advance CVT's institutional fundraising strategy by expanding and strengthening contributed revenue partnerships with private foundations and other philanthropic institutional funders supporting CVT's domestic and international work. Reporting to the Director of Development, this role serves as a key member of the Advancement team and helps drive revenue diversification, foundation engagement, and long-term philanthropic growth in alignment with organizational priorities.

 

Position open to:

Candidates located in the U.S. who are authorized to work in U.S. and will not need CVT to sponsor them on a work visa, with preference given to candidates living in the following states: Arizona, Colorado, District of Columbia, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, or Washington

Remote status:

Position is fully remote.

Responsibilities:

Institutional Fundraising, Portfolio Management & Funder Engagement: Manage and grow a portfolio of current and prospective institutional funders supporting CVT's domestic and international work. Develop and implement cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies. Build and maintain strong relationships with institutional funders through proactive communication, meetings, site visits, and ongoing engagement, while ensuring they receive timely, meaningful, and mission-centered updates on organizational impact and funding opportunities. Collaborate closely with Advancement leadership, program staff, and teams across Development, Strategic Partnerships, Growth & Engagement, and Communications to identify and pursue strategic funding opportunities aligned with organizational priorities — keeping fundraising strategies, donor engagement, and messaging coordinated and aligned.

Proposal Development: Lead the development of compelling grant proposals, letters of inquiry, reports, and other institutional fundraising materials. Coordinate cross-functional proposal development processes and synthesize programmatic, financial, and organizational information into clear and persuasive narratives.

Prospect Research & New Business Development: Conduct proactive prospect research to identify new institutional funding opportunities, emerging philanthropic trends, and strategic alignment with national foundations, family foundations, and other institutional funders.

 

Qualifications:

  • Required education, experience, certificates, licenses or registrations
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in fundraising
  • 5 years of professional fundraising experience with a focus on institutional philanthropy, foundation fundraising, or grant writing
  • Strong proposal development and strategic writing experience, including grants, letters of inquiry, reports, and donor communications
  • Experience collaborating across departments to develop funding opportunities and proposal content
  • Preferred education, experience, certificates, licenses or registrations
  • Master's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in fundraising
  • 7 years of institutional fundraising or grant writing experience
  • Demonstrated success securing five- and six-figure grants from private foundations
  • Experience supporting mission-driven, human rights, international, humanitarian, or social justice organizations
  • Experience managing institutional donor relationships and fundraising portfolios
  • Experience working with national foundations and complex institutional funders
  • Competencies (knowledge, skills and abilities)
  • Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and institutional cultures.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to craft compelling and persuasive institutional fundraising materials
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with institutional funders, organizational leadership, and cross-functional partners
  • Strong strategic thinking and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously
  • Ability to synthesize complex programmatic, financial, and organizational information into clear and compelling narratives
  • Knowledge of the national institutional philanthropic community
  • Proactive and self-directed approach to identifying funding opportunities and advancing institutional fundraising strategies
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive organizational and donor information
  • Familiarity with donor databases and institutional fundraising systems; Raiser's Edge experience preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Commitment to CVT's mission, values, and human rights-centered approach

 

Work Environment (subject to change):

  • Typical office environment
  • Time spent on the computer is approximately 90%
  • Time spent in virtual meetings is approximately 30%
  • Hiring Timeline: Most CVT hiring processes for US-based positions take about 8 weeks from when the position closes to when an offer is made to a candidate.
