The College of Science and Engineering at Hamad Bin Khalifa University seeks applications for a Post-Doctoral Fellow to support the development, modelling, and experimental testing of advanced thermal management and environmental systems. The research will focus on atmospheric water generation, HVAC and cooling systems, thermal energy storage, heat recovery, and outdoor thermal comfort. The successful candidate must have strong hands-on experience in numerical modelling and experimental validation.
Responsibilities:
* Develop numerical models for thermal, fluid-flow, HVAC, and environmental systems.
* Use ENVI-met to evaluate outdoor thermal comfort and urban heat mitigation using indicators such as UTCI and PET.
* Use COMSOL Multiphysics and ANSYS to simulate airflow, heat and mass transfer, filtration systems, cooling components, and thermal storage.
* Model and optimize atmospheric water generation and condensation processes under different temperature and humidity conditions.
* Support the design and analysis of vapor-compression cooling, absorption cooling, heat recovery, and phase-change material systems.
* Design and operate laboratory-scale experimental test rigs.
* Install and manage sensors for temperature, humidity, airflow, water flow, pressure, water quality, and system performance.
* Compare simulation results with experimental measurements and improve the models accordingly.
* Analyse research data and contribute to technical reports, journal papers, presentations, and research proposals.
* Work closely with the research team and provide clear documentation of models, experiments, and results.
Requirements:
* PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Thermofluids, Energy Engineering, HVAC, or a closely related field.
* Advanced practical proficiency in the following software is required: ENVI-met for urban microclimate, outdoor thermal comfort, and heat mitigation analysis. COMSOL Multiphysics for coupled heat transfer, fluid flow, mass transfer, and multiphysics modelling. ANSYS Fluent or ANSYS CFD for airflow, pressure drop, turbulence, heat transfer, and system-component simulations. Candidates should be able to independently develop, run, validate, and interpret simulation models using these platforms.
* Strong background in heat transfer, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, psychrometrics, and HVAC systems.
* Demonstrated hands-on proficiency in ENVI-met, COMSOL Multiphysics, and ANSYS.
* Experience in computational fluid dynamics and coupled heat and mass transfer modelling.
* 0-3 years of relevant research experience as a postdoc
* Experience interpreting technical data and creating concise reports of same.
* Strong knowledge of applicable research regulations.
* Excellent writing skills, with the ability to draft and edit a variety of written reports & communications and articulate ideas clearly and concisely. Arabic proficiency is a plus.
* Proficiency in MS Office applications and in the technology of common equipment found in relevant labs.
Advantages:
* Atmospheric water generation
* Outdoor thermal comfort and urban heat island mitigation
* Absorption cooling
* Thermal energy storage and phase-change materials
* Heat recovery systems
* Air filtration and water-quality monitoring
