The Pacific Community (SPC) is the principal scientific and technical organisation in the Pacific region, supporting development since 1947. The Strategic Communications, Outreach, Publications and Engagement division is a central function under the Office of the Director-General, which is responsible for driving a strategic, integrated and contemporary approaches to communications and storytelling that drives impact across our organisation and externally. The team provides central coordination, development of effective systems and processes, coordination of strategic and Pacific-led storytelling approaches, policies, procedures and impact-based communication actions. A central aim of the division is achieving visibility of SPC's results – achieved in collaboration with our members and development partners – through improved media engagement and coordination within SPC.
The role – the Coordinator - Editing, Design and Rapporteuring will be responsible for coordinating editing, design and rapporteuring functions within SPC, to ensure the effective delivery of publishing projects and activities for the Pacific Community, including governance documents. This role is responsible for providing editorial due diligence and project management skills to the production of high-quality, timely, scientific and technical information and corporate documents in a range of formats (print and digital) and support for SPC governance meetings with rapporteuring.
The key responsibilities of the role include the following:
Editing, publications and rapporteuring services
* Coordinating and tracking editing projects from conception to completion, in close collaboration with the Editing and Knowledge Officer and the designers within the Publishing Team. This includes liaising with client areas and collaborating with client programmes, authors and other partners
* Assigning jobs (editing, editing project management, knowledge-management, design related tasks) efficiently
* Managing and liaising with external freelancers as necessary and facilitating relevant financial processes
* Supporting the coordination and maintenance of the Publishing Team's workflow system/s, processes and databases
Publishing and design due diligence, editing and writing
* Working to maintain SPC's corporate integrity and public image, and the effectiveness of its work, through editorial due diligence for SPC publications and publishing processes
* Structural and copy editing of publications (print, digital, online) to improve clarity, consistency and accuracy, and ensure they meet the needs of target audiences
* Drafting corporate articles and other texts (e.g. annual report text, articles, brochures, meeting reports) to suit the required target group, and revising/rewriting documents
Rapporteuring
* High quality live drafting of outcome documents, including during the drafting committee meetings
