The Climate Alliance is seeking a Communication Trainee to support the implementation of communications and stakeholder engagement within the Energy Poverty Advisory Hub (EPAH), a flagship EU initiative supporting municipalities across Europe in addressing energy poverty.

For over 35 years, Climate Alliance member municipalities have been acting in partnership with indigenous rainforest peoples for the benefit of the global climate. With over 2,000 members spread across more than 25 countries, Climate Alliance is Europe's largest city network dedicated to comprehensive and equitable climate action.

Our ideal candidate

You will work closely with the EPAH project team to contribute to communications outputs, ensuring clarity, consistency, and accuracy across materials and channels. The position offers a strong learning opportunity in EU project communication, with a particular focus on editorial quality and attention to detail.

Your tasks

The Energy Poverty Advisory Hub (EPAH) is a European initiative supporting local authorities and stakeholders in addressing energy poverty across Europe. Launched by the European Commission, EPAH contributes to the EU's broader objectives under the European Green Deal, including a just and inclusive energy transition. Climate Alliance coordinates the initiative as part of a European consortium, and by joining our team you will support the implementation of communication and knowledge-sharing activities aimed at strengthening local action on energy poverty.

Under the supervision of the project managers, the trainee will provide support in the following areas:

* Assist in the preparation, editing and proofreading of publications, reports and other written materials, ensuring high standards of clarity, consistency and accuracy;
* Support the production of communication materials, including infographics and visual content, with attention to detail in text and layout;
* Contribute to the drafting and editing of website content, newsletters and stakeholder communications;
* Support the planning, coordination and follow-up of online and onsite events, including preparation of communication materials and post-event reporting;
* Assist with stakeholder communication, including managing project mailboxes and supporting timely and consistent responses;
* Support data management and maintenance of communication-related databases (e.g. CRM tools, contact lists);
* Contribute to ensuring consistent messaging and terminology across project outputs;
* Provide administrative and organisational support to the project team, including preparation of meetings, documentation and materials;
* Collaborate closely with the project team and gain insight into communication and coordination within EU-funded projects;
* Build knowledge of EU energy and climate policy by contributing to project activities, including workshops, briefings, and events.

Essential requirements

Study & experience:
* Bachelor's or Master's degree in communication, journalism, political science, environmental studies or a related field;
* Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills in English, with a strong eye for detail;
* Ability to review and improve texts for clarity, coherence and consistency;
* Basic understanding of EU policymaking and climate or energy-related topics;
* Ability to translate technical content into clear and engaging communication;
* Experience with social media and digital communication tools;
* Basic knowledge of graphic design tools and visual communication principles;
* Experience with online collaboration tools (e.g. Webex, Teams, Zoom);

Personal skills & skills profile:
* Strong motivation to work in a non-profit environment and shared values with Climate Alliance;
* Interest and/or experience in energy transition, climate change and sustainability;
* Interest and/or experience with citizen engagement, participatory methods and (online) tools;
* Team player, proactive and interested to learn new skills;
* Systemic as well as out-of-the-box thinker;
* Dynamic, pro-active and quick starter;
* Excellent organisational skills, high attention to detail, and ability to multitask.
