The position
The Aga Khan Foundation, one of the world's leading international development organisations, is looking to strengthen its public engagement activities in the UK and deepen its relationship with community members and other key audiences.

The Public Engagement Officer will work with the AKF (UK) and UK Communications team to develop communications materials and deliver events to better engage, educate and inspire these audiences about the work of the Aga Khan Foundation and broader Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN).

The person in this role is expected to have experience of delivering online and in-person events that advance strategic objectives and of developing visually engaging digital communications materials.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Strategic Plan Execution & Continuous Improvement
• Implement communication campaigns aligned with the UK public engagement strategy.
• Set up analytics tools and produce regular performance reports (social media engagement, email metrics, event attendance, etc.).
• Provide insights and recommendations to optimise campaigns and improve engagement over time.

2. Event Marketing & Promotions
• Co-manage the development and lead on the delivery of high quality and professional online and in-person events in line with AKF’s strategy to engage the community members in the UK.
• Maintain and segment mailing lists to enable targeted communications.
• Manage invitation list RSVPs and co-ordinate pre-event logistics.
• Develop marketing materials for events including invitations, social media graphics and events newsletter alerts.
• Coordinate distribution of marketing materials via AKDN websites, social media, internal publications and newsletters.
• Liaise with the Communication & Publication department to ensure brand compliance and timely dissemination.
• Develop event briefs and concept notes to share with key event participants and stakeholders to ensure they are well briefed on events and roles are clearly defined.
• Manage post-event follow up, i.e. thanking participants, sharing requested information with attendees, and evaluation of events.
• Engage with and steward donors of all kinds - from high-net worth individuals to those who give smaller monthly standing orders.
• Deliver tours of the Aga Khan Centre for key stakeholders.

3. Content Development & Management
• Oversee creation of multimedia content (presentations, newsletters, videos, graphics, etc.) that align with AKF and AKDN brand guidelines.
• Maintain a centralised communications library (approved messaging, design assets, templates, promotional materials).
• Draft and review copy for relevant channels to ensure tone, language, and narrative consistency.

4. Social Media Monitoring & Content Development
• Support the scheduling and publishing of AKF content across internal websites and other partner platforms.
• Track engagement trends and flag opportunities or risks.
• Respond to or escalate comments and messages where appropriate.
• Work with the Communications team to ensure campaigns are consistently executed across digital channels.

5. Team Support & Collaboration
• Provide support to the AKF UK Communications team on ad hoc campaigns and initiatives.
• Assist with cross-team coordination to ensure alignment across communications, events, and engagement activities.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of internal processes and ways of working.

The requirements
PERSON SPECIFICATIONS
• 2 to 5 years’ experience in a similar communications, marketing and events role. A strong graduate would be considered.
• Experience supporting campaigns, content creation, and/or event delivery.
• Prior experience working ideally as Marketing Communications Coordinator.
• Charity or non-profit sector experience is desirable.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex ideas.
• Strong project management skills with experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects.

• Social media platforms (e.g. Instagram and LinkedIn)
• Email marketing tools (e.g. Mailchimp or similar)
• Basic design tools (e.g. Canva, Adobe Creative Suite)
• Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel)
• Analytics tools (e.g. Google Analytics, social media insights)
• CRM or database management tools (desirable)
