Post-doctoral position (12 months, full-time, reference 2026-4096) at BRGM's Direction de l'énergie et de la décarbonation (DED/I2S unit) in Orléans, France. The unit carries out R&D and public-policy support on decarbonated subsurface energy: geothermal energy and heat storage, carbon capture and storage, natural hydrogen, underground energy storage and radioactive waste storage. Its work covers integrity of natural and man-made barriers, impacts of subsurface use (induced seismicity, pollutant migration, CO2 leakage), monitoring, coupled predictive modelling, uncertainty treatment and risk analysis.
Mission: as part of the PEPR REINFORCE project, develop algorithms to integrate a mechanical and seismological computation code into BRGM's Orison data-assimilation platform. Test these developments to build and improve a (hydro)mechanical model of a deep geothermal site in Alsace and a statistical model of the Lacq site in the Pyrenees, using induced-seismicity catalogues as model inputs.
Profile: PhD in seismology (geosciences) or rock mechanics obtained less than 3 years ago; good knowledge of physical-process modelling and inverse problems; knowledge of computing environments and languages, Python in particular; ability to work in a multidisciplinary team, with initiative and autonomy; good communication skills; fluent English (read, written, spoken).
The post involves periodic travel within France. Planned start date: 04/01/2027. Benefits include remote-work options, 13-month salary basis, extra leave days (JRTT), company restaurant, sports facilities and holiday/leisure benefits. BRGM is HRS4R-labelled and committed to diversity.
Closing date: 2026-10-29
