The Secretariat of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), an inter-governmental organization supporting countries in their transition to a sustainable energy future, is seeking an Associate Professional - Statistics for its Knowledge, Policy and Finance Centre (KPFC) in Abu Dhabi. The Statistics Unit provides reliable and timely renewable energy statistics, essential for informed energy planning and for monitoring SDG7 and the UAE Consensus.
Duration: One year, with possible extension.
Indicative annual salary: USD 36,000 to 54,000 plus benefits (monthly accommodation allowance of USD 1,600, relocation and installation grants if applicable, health insurance).
Expected entry on duty: as soon as possible.
Responsibilities:
- Collect, check and compile renewable energy statistics from primary and secondary sources, following procedures and using appropriate tools for data collection, processing, storage and dissemination; ensure data quality is sufficient to monitor international targets and goals.
- Prepare data for dissemination via publications, webpages, country profiles and databases, and assist in promoting IRENA's statistics in the media and at events.
- Organise and participate in seminars, working groups, expert meetings and projects as a technical resource person, including training events in renewable energy statistics.
- Research and analyse aspects of renewable energy statistics to fill dataset gaps and add value, in particular relating to off-grid energy technologies and data needed to monitor SDG7.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education: A first-level university degree or a Master's degree (or equivalent) in statistics, mathematics, engineering, economics, or another subject with a strong quantitative emphasis. A first-level degree in other subjects may be acceptable with qualifying experience.
Experience: Experience in the collection, compilation, analysis and dissemination of statistics is required, along with a high level of proficiency in Excel. Understanding of Python, R, PowerBI and Tableau is an advantage, as is experience managing large datasets and knowledge of energy statistics methodologies.
Language: Excellent written and spoken English; knowledge of other UN official languages (especially Spanish or Russian) is an advantage.
