IDC is a unique global network of over 200 civil society organisations and individuals in more than 75 countries, coordinating advocacy, research, coalition and capacity building to eliminate immigration detention and advance rights-based alternatives to detention. We are seeking a highly organised and motivated individual with a solid background in advocacy on migration and human rights and a strong understanding of the Western Balkans context. The Europe Programme Officer – Balkans will support IDC's mission in the Balkans and wider Europe programme, working closely with the Europe Regional Manager to contribute to regional programmes, events and advocacy strategies, while providing operational, administrative, research and communications support. Responsibilities include supporting implementation of national and regional projects, developing and implementing advocacy strategies on immigration detention and migrant/refugee rights, engaging stakeholders including governments and civil society, drafting advocacy and communications materials, supporting research and evidence gathering, contributing to fundraising efforts, and supporting monitoring, evaluation and reporting.
Essential criteria: understanding of the European context and Balkans region on migration/asylum/human rights; direct advocacy experience with governments and civil society in the Balkans and/or EU institutions; university degree in international relations, law, migration studies, political science or related field; minimum three years' professional experience in project coordination, stakeholder engagement and advocacy in migration/human rights; strong communication and organisational skills; ability to work independently remotely and travel within the Balkans and wider Europe; residing in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greece, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia or Serbia; fluency in English. Contract duration is one year with possibility of extension, compensation EUR 30,000 to 40,000 per year depending on location and experience.
