Precision Development (PxD) is a global non-profit with the mission to scale innovations that millions of smallholder farmers in low and middle-income countries can use to improve their lives. PxD delivers timely, evidence-based digital information to farmers via basic mobile phones, and has scaled digital agriculture services to more than 46 million farmers across Africa and Asia.
PxD is seeking a dynamic, creative, and self-motivated Research Manager to join its Ethiopia team (full-time, Addis Ababa) and work closely with a team embedded within an Ethiopian government office. The role combines rigorous research with real-world program delivery: designing, testing, and improving digital agriculture services that can reach farmers at scale.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide strategic input into the design of new research ideas and projects, and identify opportunities to improve program impact.
- Manage research activities across multiple projects, ensuring rigor, timelines, and budgets.
- Lead research projects from study design through implementation, analysis, and dissemination.
- Scope, design, pilot, and scale evidence-backed digital agriculture services.
- Translate internal and external evidence into practical recommendations for PxD programs.
- Oversee data management and analysis, including survey design and A/B testing.
- Manage relationships with government, research, and other external partners.
- Develop and ensure compliance with IRB protocols and in-country research permission requirements.
- Contribute to funding proposals, reports, and communications; mentor Associate and Manager-level staff.
Requirements:
- Master's degree or PhD in economics, agricultural economics, public policy, or a related field.
- Professional experience on at least three large projects involving the design and management of rigorous research and evidence-based programs in low- and middle-income countries.
- Deep understanding of economics and randomized evaluations.
- Strong knowledge of Stata, R, or similar software; experience with survey tools such as SurveyCTO or ODK.
- Experience managing or mentoring researchers or team members, and working with government agencies, research institutions, or development organizations.
- Strong written and oral English communication skills; fluency in Amharic is an advantage.
- Willingness to travel to field sites in Ethiopia.
