The Africa Enterprise Challenge Fund (AECF) is a non-profit that provides investment funding and technical assistance to commercially viable businesses improving the lives of rural communities, focusing on agriculture and renewable and clean energy. The REACT Kenya 2.0 Programme (January 2025 - December 2028) is funded by Sida and supports green growth in Kenya through energy access, e-mobility and waste management/circular economy.
AECF is seeking short-term consultant(s) or consultancy firms to deliver customized technical assistance to three REACT Kenya 2.0 investees. The consultant will develop tools, systems, frameworks, action plans and training materials that investees can keep using, and help them improve operational efficiency, commercial viability, governance and sustainability.
Scope of work covers four areas: (1) Financial Management & Business Model Viability: financial diagnostics, controls, budgeting, cash flow forecasting, unit economics, audit readiness and SOPs; (2) Market Attractiveness & Commercial Strategy: go-to-market strategy, pricing, partnerships and distribution channels, customer acquisition and revenue diversification; (3) Leadership, Governance & Business Structuring: governance assessment, board charters, policies, ESG/HSE compliance, founder coaching and succession planning; (4) Impact Measurement, Monitoring & Evaluation: results frameworks, KPIs (waste diversion, energy delivered, jobs created, youth and women employment) and AECF-aligned reporting.
Deliverables include an inception report, baseline diagnostics, tailored tools and templates, a mid-term review, company-specific completion reports, a consolidated lessons-learned report, exit strategies and full handover of materials.
Duration: three months in Kenya, expected to start in October 2026. The consultant reports to the Senior Advisory Specialist at AECF.
Qualifications: proposed team members with a Master's or equivalent in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Energy, Environmental Management, Development Studies or a related field; at least five years of experience in business development support, technical assistance and strategy for renewable energy, e-mobility, productive use of energy or circular economy companies; experience in financial management systems, governance strengthening and M&E design; and good understanding of the Kenyan regulatory environment. Evaluation weighting: 70% technical, 30% financial.
