Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is seeking a Program Director for Europe, a regional leadership role based in Bratislava, Slovakia (regular fixed-term, full time, approximately 30% travel). The role drives systemic impact in housing across four core pillars: strategic portfolio leadership, technical and program quality, people and network leadership, and resource mobilization.
Key responsibilities:
- Strategic portfolio leadership: develop, operationalize and update the Europe Program Strategy in line with global and regional priorities; translate it into multi-year objectives, delivery plans, resource allocations and impact targets; conduct regular portfolio reviews to scale, adapt or exit programs and partnerships.
- Technical quality, innovation and systems change: position HFHI as a thought-and-practice leader in priority housing areas (energy efficiency, social rental, adaptive reuse, Roma housing, displacement response); lead and mentor a team of technical advisors; oversee technical standards, quality assurance and integrated approaches linking housing with climate, policy, finance and social inclusion.
- Team leadership: build, mentor and manage a high-performing, multidisciplinary Europe program team; provide matrix leadership for cross-functional staff; manage capacity allocation across proposal design, technical support and strategic initiatives.
- Network collaboration and governance: build relationships with National Organizations, Global Foundations and leadership boards; represent and chair HFHI on National Organization Boards; support country entities in strategic alignment, technical assistance and capacity assessments.
- Program development and resource mobilization: build a pipeline of scalable, fundable programs; lead development of multi-country funding packages and consortium opportunities for EU institutions, development banks, foundations and bilateral donors.
- External positioning: represent Habitat with EU institutions, governments, development banks and housing networks; translate program evidence into policy recommendations.
- Area leadership: serve on the Europe & Middle East Area Leadership Team and act for the Senior Director for Programs when delegated.
Requirements:
- Master's degree in International Development, Public Administration, Social Sciences or a related field.
- At least 10 years of progressive program management and leadership experience, including at least 5 years on programs within Europe.
- Proven housing expertise with deep operational and conceptual knowledge of regional housing challenges.
- Familiarity with EU funding programs (e.g., LIFE, Horizon Europe) and European development finance institutions.
- Extensive experience managing multicultural teams.
- Fluency in English; proficiency in another major European language (French, German, Spanish) highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of Europe's political, economic and social landscape; ability to travel extensively.
