Do you want to leave your mark on the world and help protect and restore the world's oceans? Oceana is seeking a Communications Associate to support Oceana's organizational public relations efforts and increase brand awareness to drive media coverage, fundraising, and policy and corporate outcomes.
Key responsibilities include helping secure press coverage in strategic outlets, serving as a media contact for Oceana's corporate plastic campaigns and Transparent Oceans Initiative, building relationships with members of the media, generating press coverage for major fundraising events, and supporting Oceana's experts and celebrity supporters with talking points and interviews.
The ideal candidate is a strong writer and communicator with excellent verbal, presentation, and organizational skills, along with demonstrated proficiency in AP Style and a keen attention to detail. They can quickly synthesize complicated scientific jargon for lay audiences, have strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively across teams, and are able to meet strict deadlines and work under pressure while maintaining humor and high energy.
This position is part of Oceana's Global Marketing and Communications Department, working closely with Communications staff across Oceana's international offices as well as the Communications Intern.
This is a full-time position based in Washington, DC. One to 2 years of professional experience is required.
The salary range for this position is $50,000 – $55,000 annually.
