Humanitarian Team Overview
InterAction serves as a unique interlocutor within the humanitarian system, through our wide network of operational NGOs, close relationships with United Nations (UN) leadership, and representative role on the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC). We are a proven leader within the global policy and practice realm, providing strong analysis and recommendations, based on evidence, to engage stakeholders in policy initiatives, facilitate dialogue between various actors, and leverage the voice of civil society to promote principled outcome-oriented approaches to humanitarian action. InterAction is instrumental in developing and amplifying NGOs' common approaches and messaging related to the challenges faced by humanitarian actors and affected populations.
InterAction simultaneously focuses inward, in supporting our members and community, and outward, as a recognized liaison on behalf of the U.S. NGO community. Our members call upon and expect InterAction to act as the community convener, mediator, and leader to develop common positions and messages on fundamental issues related to humanitarian policy, practice, and protection improving their ability to leverage partnerships and provide assistance to people affected by conflict and disasters.
Position Description:
The Program Coordinator for Humanitarian Team will work closely with the VP to support the work of the entire team. This includes working directly with the Director of Protection, and with InterAction staff across teams to support membership working groups, InterAction and member representative engagement in IASC bodies, the protection workstreams, and InterAction engagement with the US government on humanitarian issues. This role coordinates closely across InterAction members, building strong working relationships with other NGO consortia, UN entities, and donors to strengthen collective responses to shared humanitarian concerns. The Program Coordinator will also be responsible for managing administrative support to the Humanitarian team and communicating with other colleagues across InterAction.

This is a full-time position based in Washington D.C. InterAction maintains a hybrid work environment and employees are eligible to telework three days a week and required to work in the office two days a week. There is an expectation that employees will be based in the Washington D.C. region.
Essential Functions:
* Lead and coordinate support for our 9 country working group, including managing calendar invitations, developing meeting agendas and liaising with co-chairs
* Communicate regularly with other InterAction working group focal points and the Vice President of the Humanitarian Team to coordinate work processes and ensure a coherent approach to working groups and their workplans
* Coordinate UN Partnership working groups, engaging with co-chairs as well as UNHCR and WFP at working levels as needed
* Ensure timely and efficient flow of information between members, by managing communication channels including listservs, IM chats and the InterAction Member Portal
* As needed, provide support related to working group advocacy efforts, including through coordination and logistics
* Liaise with InterAction's Policy and Government Relations team around congressional advocacy to ensure that working group advocacy is appropriately targeted and informed
* With the VP of the Humanitarian Team and the Director of Protection, regularly review InterAction's approach to working groups to ensure it meets the needs of our members in a rapidly changing environment, including convening regular meetings with the co-chairs
* Support management of the Protection Website, including preparing documents for publication and updating the site with new materials as needed
* Facilitate regular communication between the Humanitarian team, Policy and Government Relations, Communications, and other colleagues to ensure in-house coordination
* Support convening and planning of the Humanitarian Advisory Committee by setting meeting dates, sending invitations, and drafting agendas
* Manage Humanitarian team administrative functions and support the senior staff in ad hoc meetings and projects
Minimum Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in a related field and at least 3 years of relevant work experience
* Demonstrated interest in humanitarian policy and advocacy and familiarity with the humanitarian system
* Familiarity with current issues in the humanitarian sector including complex emergency response, forced displacement, and protection
* Excellent organizational skills and ability to effectively manage multiple complex workstreams in a fast-paced environment
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to facilitate meetings with disparate stakeholders
* Experience working as part of a team and facilitating cross-team collaboration
* Excellent judgement in creative problem solving and the ability to adapt quickly to unforeseen developments
Preferred Qualifications:
* Familiarity with the US legislative process and familiarity with leverage points throughout the US government on humanitarian issues
* Experience in coordination activities and multi-stakeholder initiatives. Demonstrated ability to manage relationships with key stakeholders in humanitarian response (INGOs, NGO consortia, UN, donors, etc.)
* Experience working with protection programming and/or protection advocacy
* Working knowledge of French or Arabic
Supervisory Responsibilities:
The position does not supervise employees.
Compensation:
Salary range $60,000 - $65,000 per year, commensurate with skills and experience.
