Position: Program Coordinator (Non-Communicable Diseases)

1. Background
The Defeat-NCD Partnership is an international not for profit organization committed to reducing premature mortality and improving access to prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs). Our mission aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3.4, aiming to reduce one-third of premature mortality from NCDs by 2030.
As part of our commitment to NCD prevention and management, The Defeat-NCD Partnership is launching a community-based early detection programmes. Through Mobile Medical Units (MMUs), local NGO partnerships, and community health workers, we aim to provide screening, early detection, and referral services for diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, breast cancer, and sickle cell anaemia.
To ensure the successful implementation of this initiative, we seek a Program Coordinator with a medical background, strong project management skills, and proven experience in resource mobilization.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Program Implementation & Coordination
- Develop and oversee project plans, ensuring alignment with The Defeat-NCD Partnership's objectives.
- Coordinate the operations of Mobile Medical Units (MMUs) and community outreach initiatives.
- Ensure the smooth execution of screenings, risk assessments, and patient referrals.
- Supervise a multidisciplinary team, including medical officers, nurses, and community health workers.
- Strategize program interventions based on emerging needs and opportunities within the country.
B. Community Engagement & Partnerships
- Build and maintain relationships with local government health officials, NGOs, and community leaders.
- Mobilize community members and increase participation in screening programs.
- Develop public health awareness campaigns for NCD prevention and early detection.
- Identify and establish strategic partnerships to support program growth and sustainability.
C. Resource Mobilization & Fundraising
- Identify and engage local funding sources (government, private sector, and NGOs) to sustain and expand program activities.
- Prepare grant proposals, funding applications, and donor reports.
- Develop and execute strategies for recruiting and training volunteers and community health workers.
D. Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting
- Ensure accurate data collection, analysis, and reporting on screening results and referrals.
- Track project performance and generate impact assessment reports for stakeholders.
- Implement best practices for continuous improvement of program efficiency.
E. Financial & Logistics Management
- Manage program budgets, ensuring cost-effective allocation of resources.
- Oversee procurement of medical supplies, equipment, and logistics for MMUs.
- Ensure compliance with local health regulations and The Defeat-NCD Partnership's financial policies.
3. Required Qualifications & Experience Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Medicine, Public Health, Healthcare Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in project coordination or management in the health sector.
Experience & Skills:
- Experience in community health programs, mobile medical services, or NGO-led health interventions.
- Knowledge of NCD prevention, early detection, and treatment programs.
- Proven track record in proposal writing, fundraising and resource mobilization.
- Strong project management, team leadership, and stakeholder coordination skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Swahili.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management tools.
- Ability to develop and implement strategic partnerships to enhance the program’s reach and impact.
4. Language Proficiency:
- Excellent verbal and written communication in English
- Written and verbal proficiency in the local/ native language(s) of the country
5. Compensation & Benefits
Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications and will be subject to all applicable statutory deductions and tax liability.
6. Terms of Engagement
This is a national position and ONLY citizens of Tanzania with authorization to work in Tanzania, needs to apply. This is a fixed-term contract for 12 months, renewable based on performance and funding availability. The position requires constant travel within the country for fieldwork in remote areas
