About Global Greengrants Fund:
Global Greengrants Fund (GGF) supports grassroots activists and civil society organisations around the world working to address environmental and social justice in over 160 countries. GGF applies a participatory and decentralised model in making grants to grassroots groups through regional and thematic boards of advisors, global partner networks, and partner funds to support grassroots environmental and social justice action. Global Greengrants Fund believes solutions to environmental harm and social injustice come from people whose lives are most impacted. Every day, our global network of people on the frontlines and donors comes together to support communities to protect their ways of life and our planet. Because when local people have a say in the health of their food, water, and resources, they are forces for change.

Global Greengrants Fund comprises two organisations located in the USA, Global Greengrants Fund Inc. (established in 1993), and Global Greengrants Fund UK (established in 2012). The two organisations work closely together with a shared grantmaking programme and strategic collaboration at the senior leadership level.

In 2026, Global Greengrants Fund is amid a transformative journey in which we collectively centre our values, including diversity, equity, and inclusion and organisational care in our work, and rediscover our identity and potential after 30 years of work. The Major Donor Philanthropic Partnerships Officer needs to understand the challenges and opportunities that come with these transformations and be able to remain flexible, steady, and adaptable while cultivating aligned major donor relationships that help propel movement-led climate justice.

Global Greengrants Fund mobilizes resources for a decentralized, Global South-led advisory network and thousands of grassroots partners advancing environmental and climate justice in more than 160 countries. In a challenging funding landscape marked by shrinking civic space, institutional risk aversion, and climate finance flowing largely to large-scale solutions, grassroots movements remain both essential and underfunded. GGF works to bridge movements and philanthropy, helping shift and mobilize the broader climate justice funding ecosystem toward more equitable, movement-led resourcing and long-term redistribution of resources, while channeling flexible resources to communities often excluded from mainstream funding.

The Role:
Global Greengrants Fund is seeking a strategic and relationship-driven professional who will collaborate across teams and our global network to strengthen philanthropic partnerships and mobilize resources for grassroots climate and environmental justice movements. This role plays a critical part in cultivating, stewarding, and growing relationships with high-capacity individual donors, ensuring that philanthropic investments are aligned with and responsive to movement-led priorities. They will engage donors not only as supporters, but as partners in redistributing wealth and shifting power toward communities historically excluded from mainstream philanthropy.

This role leads the cultivation and stewardship of a portfolio of major individual donors and high-net-worth prospects. It supports the development of tailored engagement strategies, multi-year giving pathways, and meaningful donor experiences that deepen alignment with GGF’s mission and values. Working closely with Programs, Communications, and leadership, the role ensures that donor engagement is strategic, well-coordinated, and grounded in the realities and priorities of grassroots movements.

The Candidate Profile:
The successful candidate will bring experience cultivating and growing relationships with major individual donors, including cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding five- and six-figure gifts. They will have a proven ability to manage a portfolio of high-capacity donors and develop tailored engagement strategies that deepen commitment and align philanthropic resources with movement-led climate justice priorities.
They will be highly relational and strategic, with the ability to build trust with high-net-worth individuals while maintaining alignment with GGF’s values and approach. They will bring excellent writing and communication skills and be comfortable translating complex programmatic work into compelling narratives and opportunities for donor engagement. They will be comfortable engaging critically with questions of power, privilege, and wealth, and able to navigate these dynamics with humility, clarity, and a commitment to justice.

They will demonstrate strong analytical and organizational skills, using CRM systems and portfolio data to track engagement, inform strategy, and support forecasting and planning. They will also have experience supporting or hosting donor gatherings, convenings, or curated engagement spaces that strengthen relationships and expand networks.

They will be comfortable working collaboratively in a virtual, globally distributed team and demonstrate sound judgment, emotional intelligence, and the ability to navigate complex relationships with care and integrity. They will bring a commitment to Global Greengrants Fund’s mission and values, including a grounding in feminist climate justice and movement-led philanthropy. Experience engaging progressive wealth communities, donor-advised funds, legacy or next-generation philanthropy would be an advantage.

Personal Characteristics:
The successful candidate will be highly relational and values-driven, with the ability to build trust with a diverse range of stakeholders, including high-net-worth individuals, while remaining grounded in Global Greengrants Fund’s commitment to movement-led climate justice. They will be comfortable working at the intersection of wealth and justice, engaging donors as partners in redistributing resources and shifting power toward grassroots movements.

They will be a thoughtful and strategic communicator, able to listen deeply, ask meaningful questions, and translate between different spheres—connecting grassroots realities with philanthropic perspectives in ways that are clear, respectful, and compelling. They will bring strong emotional intelligence and sound judgment, with the ability to manage sensitive relationships with care and integrity.

They will be adaptable and self-reflective, able to work effectively in a fast-evolving, globally distributed environment while managing multiple priorities. They will be comfortable working collaboratively across teams and cultures, contributing to a spirit of shared ownership, accountability, and learning.

They will demonstrate a commitment to Global Greengrants Fund’s mission and values, including a grounding in feminist climate justice and solidarity-based philanthropy. Existing networks within individual climate or feminist philanthropy and experience working within global social justice or movement-led organizations would be an advantage. They will bring a willingness to challenge conventional approaches to philanthropy in the service of more just, equitable, and movement-centered outcomes.

The right candidate will understand Global Greengrants Fund’s core values and be committed to the guiding principles and mission of Global Greengrants Fund and ensure they uphold them in how they carry out the responsibilities of the role.
