This internship is part of an academic, professional, or socio-professional integration training program and must meet the conditions set by the Employment Market Monitoring Council (CSME). The duration of the internship, as defined by the tripartite agreement, is 6 to 12 months at 100%.

Context & Mission
Doctors Without Borders is an independent international medical and humanitarian organization that provides care to people in need, to people affected by natural or man-made disasters and to victims of armed conflict, without discrimination and without regard to race, religion, beliefs or political affiliation (MSF Charter).

The operations department consists of desks (units), a director of operations, two deputy directors, assistants, as well as project managers and medical advisors. There are six units, including five regular units and one emergency desk. Each team is coordinated by a program manager (PM) supported by a deputy program manager (DPM). Each unit has one internship position.

The responsibilities of the cell trainee are distributed as follows: 40% of the time dedicated to operational support, 40% of the time dedicated to HR and administrative support and 20% dedicated to medical-operational files.

The Emergency Response Unit coordinates acute and often complex emergency interventions. This means that the unit's portfolio is dynamic, changing according to needs and including numerous project openings and closures.

Main responsibilities
Operations (in support of the Program Manager (PM) and their deputy (DPM))

• Support for context analysis
• Drafting and editing reports/proposals for interventions, in conjunction with the RP/ARP
• Research on topics specific to the missions (reports, evaluations, etc.)
• Summaries, compilations and layouts for internal and external presentations
• Monitoring of operational points and preparation for/participation in weekly meetings
• Each Cell Assistant is required, during their internship, to work on a medical-operational case study. The chosen case study must reconcile (a) the operational needs of the Cell/missions, (b) academic requirements, such as the need to write a thesis, and (c) if possible, a link to the assistant's future career.
• Specific support and monitoring according to the needs of the cell and the field, for example:
• Ordering maps and monitoring ongoing work with the MSF GIS unit
• Centralization of project management documents.
• Monitoring of legal registrations and renewals
Human Resources (in support of Operational Human Resources Managers (OHRM))

• Support for monitoring international staff on Desk projects (departures, returns, availability, etc.)
• Ensures the updating and provision of key operational, HR and mission documents for international staff (KOMPAS, SharePoint, Onedrive)
• Supports the organization of briefings (strategic documents, context, HR) and debriefings for expatriates and ensures their reception and orientation
• Participation in international staff briefings
• Monitoring of weekly HR points and preparation for/participation in the weekly meeting
• with pool managers
Organizational tasks related to the operation of the Desk

• Focal point for Knowledge Management within the Unit, in charge of the Kompas software and its maintenance (archiving and updating of documents)
• Document management and archiving for the Desk on SharePoint
• Translation of documents according to needs and requests
• Minutes of various weekly or ad hoc meetings (MiniDesk, CoPro, etc.)
• Organizing events for the team (interdesk, team-building retreats, e-pool days, training sessions…)
• Participates in monitoring field visits by various stakeholders and centralizes information
Logistics and supply chain

• Preparation and monitoring of equipment intended for missions (management of "departure locker")
Desired profile
• To be covered by an internship agreement
• Intra- or extra-academic program, or according to federal professional integration measures: preferably Public Health, International Relations, Human Resources Management or management, law degree or equivalent
• Demonstrated interest in humanitarian aid
• Fluency in French and English (spoken and written), another language an asset; excellent writing skills in French and English
• Team spirit, ability to collaborate with multicultural teams
• Prioritization, proactivity, rigor, organization
• Good knowledge of the Windows environment (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Working conditions
• Mandatory tripartite internship agreement
• 6 to 9 month internship at 100% (depending on the internship agreement)
• Based in Geneva
• Effective date: May 26, 2026
• Gross monthly salary: CHF 2,000.-
