Professional Experience:
I started my career as a scientist with Indian Space Research Organization in 1984.After a stint of three years joined the Indian Engineering service of the Union Government , attached with Indian Railways,and continuing with the same service. I had opportunity to serve in different capacities and domains of working of the government such as project management, operations and maintenance,vigilance, corporate governance and ethical issues, quality management, marketing finance and other general management functions in a PSU ambience. During the course of my career I have updated me with several trainings and higher academic qualifications viz. MS in quality management and MBA from Lancaster university, UK.
The following are my key competencies
• Project Management with technical expertise in Railway infra structure development: I was heading a functional unit of one of the major Rail projects in the country- The Konkan Railway Project.
• Vendor Development and quality management/ third party inspections: I independently handled the vendor development activities for Indian Railways (western Region) while working as Director(inspection) of Research Designs and Standards Organization (RDSO).During this tenure I had opportunity to understand and improve manufacturing processes of several industries connected with Railways. Owing to my close association and interest in the quality and organizational performance improvement activities of organizations I served as an examiner for the Ramakrishna Bajaj National Quality award of the Indian Merchants Chamber (IMC). for three cycles of award.
• I also had a very successful stint as a vigilance officer of Central Zone of Indian Railways where I could contribute significantly to improve the transparency in working. Uploading billing information, approval status for vendors, enhanced online features in approval processes are some of the improvements that I could implement in the system. I was awarded by the senior management for implementing such improvements.
• Operations and Maintenance is one of my core competencies especially train operations ( signaling and Telecom systems). I had developed the operational requirements for the Konkan Railways, managed the communications system of entire Central zone of indian Railways.
• In 2009 I was promoted as Chief Signal and Telecom Engineer. Managing a major Electrification Project (about 1400 Km) was the major assignment
In my current position as Group General Manager and regional head I manage a team of marketing, commercial, finance and operational professional . Even though it is a PSU but is profit driven and performance is paramount for survival. I am successful in about 5% revenue growth even in a sluggish economy ( INR 700million pa)
