Professional Experience:
I have 28 years experience in the legal field working in different industries. Law is dynamic and as such I am willing and able to go out of my comfort zone and try new areas. That is the reason I have sought to improve and reinvent myself and branch into the international trade, investment and business law side coupled with human rights. I am willing and able to learn new things. I am a fast learner, a team player and can assimilate in any society, having lived and worked in Namibia for ten years.
I have worked in various capacities throughout my years of experience.I initially started working in the magistracy field presiding over criminal and civil matters and performing administrative functions. We were also overall overseers of the prison officials and conditions. Our responsibilities entailed conducting prison visits and taking up any complains from the prisoners and seeing to their general welfare.
I later worked at the labour tribunal as an adjudicator in the labour industry mediating as well as adjudicating in labour disputes. We were also responsible to sit as an arbitration court upon request. Appeals from this tribunal lay with Supreme Court, the highest court in the land, only on points of law.
I worked in the Employment Council of the Motor Industry which regulates the activities in the industry, in the whole country, for the employer as well as the employees. We mediated within the industry being the link between the employers and employees and ensuring the enforcement of the rights of the workers at the work place. We also ensured that the rules, laws and regulations and obligations within the industry are adhered to by both the employees and employers. Later was elevated to be the overall in charge of running the organisation, with 30 employees. As a lawyer was also responsible for offering services as a legal advisor and a principal officer to the Pension fund of the Industry.I acted as the Company Secretary to the Board and as their legal advisor.
I later practiced as a legal practitioner in a law practice concentrating on corporate and labour issues and family matters.
Currently and am a Legal Consultant doing consultancy in monitoring and evaluation. Up until December 2017, for the past ten years I have been working as a legislative drafter, responsible for drafting the laws of the whole country and offering legal advise to the various institutions. There my legal research, drafting and analytical skills were sharpened. I also learnt how to interact with non lawyers who hold influential positions and advise them or even disagree with them with respect.
